Rugs

Rugs are wonderful additions to any home. They protect the underlying carpet by absorbing most of the foot traffic, and if they become a bit unsightly, they can easily be washed, or taken to a professional cleaning service for a once over. If there are small children in the home, discount rugs with printed on street or race track scenes make for hours of play with Lego blocks that will create houses on the pre-printed streets, while race cars will follow the roads of the race track in imaginary recreations of the 24 hours of LeMans.

Bathroom rugs keep your feet home on cold tiles, while bath rugs keep you from slipping in the shower or bathtub. Kitchen rugs add to the comfort of feet that spend long hours standing in front of a stove cooking or a sink doing dishes, while hearth rugs add old fashioned ambience to a home with a rustic décor. Wool rugs grace floor where teens may like to lie down and read, while cowhide rugs ornament a cowboy motif in interior decorating. Throw rugs cover a multitude of stains that not even grandma’s old stain remover gets out, while rag rugs hide a multitude of debris in a college dorm room.

When it comes to rugs, the sky is truly the limit! Rug hooking is a popular hobby; penny rugs, Karastan rugs, Capel rugs, and Flokati rugs all serve to make any home more comfortable, beautiful, and also functional. It is not surprising that doting dog lovers will purchase a special rug for Fluffy or Duke to lie on when it gets cold. Many will even add a pillow to make sure their little – or big – canine companion not only feels warm and snug, but also loved and treated as a member of the family.

Of course, where there are dogs, there will be fleas, unless you live in the colder areas of the United States. Those living in California and other warmer climates know that the little black dots that seem to be darting to and fro on little Rover are actually fleas which are feasting on your poor dog’s blood. Fortunately for your doggie, there are a number of tinctures and medicines available from your vet an over the counter that will dispatch the fleas into the great beyond.

Yet rugs present a way for fleas to – at least temporarily – remain near your dog. Thus, flea control will need to include your rugs and not just be focused on your dog. Remembering that fleas will not survive in rugs for long, they can stay in them for a short period of time until your dog once again lies down on them. An occasional flea powder treatment of your rug – after a thorough vacuuming – will take care of any remnants that may have stayed around.
