What's the best way to secure carpeting on hardwood stairs?
Nails, glue or other? I tried pounding tacks, but that hardwood is like trying to pound a nail into a steel block. Also this will leave holes in the wood. Glue and tapes will leave a sticky residue. Any suggestions?

- Most people here use tack strip on the stairs to attach carpet..You didn't want holes or a glue residue, you have to attach it someway or another..but tack strips are the most common for carpet on wooden stairways
- Carpet tacks. They are the most secure, they are hardened and made for the job. Use a better hammer.
- ONLY 2 WAYS I KNOW OF CARPET TACK AND CONTACT CEMENT(GLUE)

- A tack strip at the back of the tread and staples under the front of the tread. That's how proffessionals do it.
