Carpeting Home

When building a new house would you build (internal) stairs differently for wood v. carpeting?

Specifically closed stairs (i.e. there is a "knee wall" around), and the options are carpeting or engineered wood with nosing on the treads. Thanks.

  1. Wood is easier to keep clean.
  2. If you're going to cover up the stairs with carpet, the wood underneath doesn't have to be 'pretty' and thus would be cheaper. It is easier to keep wooden stairs clean, but then the wood must be finished attractively. I would pick wood - anytime.
  3. No. As long as the tread Length and rise height are consistent per local code. Shouldn't be a problem. Good luck.
