what do people prefer when buying a home, carpeting or laminate flooring?
I am planning on selling my home. I have replaced the carpeting in the playroom for laminate flooring. The carpeting downstairs needs to be replaced. I need to know what sells best, carpeting or laminate flooring.

- I suspect you will have faster resale with carpet....laminate flooring appeals to far fewer people than does laminate flooring (I hate the stuff, and it is expensive compared to carpeting).
- Laminate seems to be the current trend. Unless it's a really neutral carpet (bland), it's pretty well personalized and make it a harder sell. On the other hand, so is laminate if you don't get a really neutral tone. Mine is cheap Pergo and I would have preferred carpet over the orange-y tone of these floors. But I basically stole the house, so it's okay. :) If you want to go with carpet, berber is popular. It's durable and low maintenance. Good luck with the sale! BTW, after I bought my 25 year old house, I replaced all of the wall outlets and light switches with the nice decora/rocker style, with slide dimmers in the bedrooms and bathrooms. It really dressed the place up, and was cheap! I did it myself, if you're handy with a screwdriver and know your circuit breakers. I think it would make an impression.
- depends on where it is...my house has ceramic in the kitchen, and bathrooms, carpet in the bedrooms, and theater room, wood flooring in the dining room, and library.... hard floors cause echos in a tv room, and carpet feels nicer in a bedroom.....
- I prefer laminate
- We have laminate and tile. We HATE it. I like carpet.
- It's a personal choice. Some will prefer laminate, while others prefer carpet. Personally, I would not go to the effort and cost of installing new flooring before selling a home, unless the existing flooring is badly damaged or fugly. Chances are that the buyer has different tastes than your own and they might want to change it out anyway.
- Since you are planning to sell - don't go to any more expense. You will just be guessing as to what your potential buyers prefer. Have a professional come and clean the carpet 'downstairs' and leave it at that.
- Between these two then I would choose laminate. I hate carpet. You cannot clean a carpet like you can clean solid hard flooring. In my area, laminate is preferred...but...this is a question that you can get a better idea for resale by calling an agent in your area to see what is more popular with purchasers. Every area is different.
- i choose laminated one,and above all buyers vll b more intrested if u offer nythin fr free like a bit of furniture etc..u vll get a better price n am sure about it,the furniture doesnt cost u the world even if its new...now a days there are many offers running on websites where u can buy it very cheap..
- I definitely would go for laminate flooring since carpets.. if you drop something on the ground it will stain, but laminate flooring, all you need is just a moist paper towel and then a dry paper towel and then you just wipe and then toss :) unless of course you are using a bounty brand tissue, they can be reused many times :) Also, if you want carpet flooring then you might want to consider a house that has both laminate and carpeted flooring since with carpet flooring, your house will be warmer by a ยบ . Good luck!
