DIY carpet cleaning without a machine? What is the best way to clean carpet without using a carpet cleaning machine? I wanted to hire a machine from a local supermarket but they wouldn't give it to me without a driver's license, which I currently don't have. I am looking for alternative ways. Floor insulation, DIY, what can I do with this falling crawl space instulation ?? As you all on here told me to do, I looked under my flooring to see the insulation and it is that pink stuff with the aluminum foil looking side, around the crawl hole, which is inside my guest entry closet, the insulation is falling away from the floor for about 4 ft back from the opening. I took a flashlight and couldn't see any more hanging down but I couldn't see very far. IS THERE ANY WAY TO INSULATE ON TOP OF THE PLYWOOD FLOOR, extra carpeting, ????? anything, I am not trying to have a fancy home, I get no visitors, I am trying to survive disabled and low income and keep my heat in. So I take all answers even if they seem ridiculous because often I have to do the ridiculous thanks ahead of time. 56 yr. old dino again
Can a Hardwood Floor with lots of Glue on It Be Saved? Can I DIY this? I just bought a house and want to take out all the carpets and old floor coverings. Underneath is the original hardwood floor in great shape- except someone spread lots of glue on top of it at an earlier date and the surfaces really need restoring. I've never done this. Job for a pro? Can someone tell me more?

what are some good DIY methods of covering the interior walls of a boat? I have a 42 catamaran The walls are rough fiberglass. My dog ripped up and ate part of my carpet, I live in an apartment community...? and it will probably be taken out of my security deposit. Obviously, it will be quite a bit of money and my wife and I don't have the funds for this to happen, is there any way that I can fix this problem either by coming up with another excuse to tell the apartment community or and DIY ways to fix the carpet. It's about a foot and a half long maybe an inch thick and is coming from the wall to the middle of the hallway, near the garage door. That's the best description possible. Thanks a lot.
Does anyone here have any first hand experience with carpet dying? I can't find anyone in my area that offers this service, and would consider a DIY project, but I would like to get feedback from anyone that has had their carpet dyed either professionally or DIY. How do you like the results? Would you recommend this or not? Thanks in advance.
Home Improvement, DIY? I am in the process of purchasing a new home, (2,300 sq ft 3bdrm 2ba) of which I want to do a few DIY improvements. I want to paint the living room, halls, and 2 of the bedrooms, and to add shutters and shrubs to the outside of the home. Does anyone know an estimate of how much it will run me? And the cheapest ways to go? Also I want to add wall to wall carpet to about 1,900 of the sqft (this will be done professionally as I am 4 months pregnate and cant fathom doing it myself at 7 months which is when I plan to do the remodeling.)
How do I fix a very old floor that is, as my landlord puts it, soft-wood? I'd like to do a mini makeover in my living room as I am so tired of having wall to wall carpeting (very difficult to keep clean when you're a busy mom). I'd like to put down new flooring but have a very limited budget. My biggest obstacle is the type of wood I have - it's not hardwood & there's tons of cracks & splinters & nails that just won't budge. I know I should have the landlord do it but it's something I want to do as a sort of "therapy" - my own little escape from everyday stress. I know how to put new flooring in but don't know how to prep this old flooring... thanks for all your help in my conquest for what will be a very interesting DIY project!!
Basement flooded and not covered by insurance. Water continues to seep in? I rented a wet-vac and got most of the water out and removed all carpeting and padding but water continues to seep in from a couple of locations. Because of the type of flooding, my policy doesn't cover any damages? and restoration services are way to pricey just to extract water and dry the area or any possible repairs. How would I carry out any DIY project to fix leaks? Its ground-water seeping through foundation somehow and coming through under the walls and trims.
How can I refit a carpet? It needs to be fitted on the wooden strips with nails? Do I just employ a carpet fitter or can do it DIY.
diy yourself vinyl flooring? im a college student and next year im gonna be moving into a room with really old and nasty carpeting. so im thinking i should just rip it up and lay down some of that cheap vinyl flooring. Underneath the carpeting is old, nasty, and beat up, yet sturdy hardwood flooring. the room is a 10 by 14 foot rectangle. i have minimal DIY experience (painting, measuring, etc) but learn very quickly. Would installing this flooring be an advisable DIY project? does anybody know the exact process? or what tools if any i would need? any advice would be great
DIY Concrete Staining Indoors? Looking for people who have ACTUALLY done it themselves before!! I am this close to pulling up the carpet/laminate and trying a do it yourself concrete staining technique on my interior floors. Something is holding me back...perhaps the fear of the unknown...not exactly sure what I will be getting myself into. So, if you have done this before on interior concrete...could you please respond and let me know the hidden costs, or the problems you ran into? Thanks in advance for your time!!!
How do I turn a carpet into an area rug? I would like to buy a large piece of carpet to have turned into a rug but I have no idea where to take it to have this done. I know it's possible and that it's much more budget friendly, since I'm covering such a large area. Is this a possible DIY project or do I have to contact a professional? And if so, what kind?
are white walls the only color that match a zebra carpet? I'm 16 years old, and I redecorated my room about two years ago. I painted my walls eggshell and got a zebra wall-to-wall. well now I'm bored with my room and want to redecorate again. I can't changes my carpet though, because it was so expensive in the first place. Does anybody have any DIY ideas? With regard to colors: would colored walls look weird with a zebra print carpet? *I meant I can't *change* the carpet.
What looks good with light blue carpet? So I just moved into a new place and I LOVE IT. The only problem is that everything is blue. It needs some help but unfortunately I'm just renting so there is only so much I can do. Also I'm on a small budget but what can I do to tone down the color? The linolium is light blue, carpets, and counter tops ( i know can you believe it? ). Any DIY ideas for this? I don't think my landlord would mind if I painted in a nuetral color.
How do I prepare a concrete floor in poor condition for tile? I was hoping to put in 20 inch tile.? This was an addition done 20-30 years ago. The concrete was never given a proper 'finish' and it's dusty, chipped and not level in areas. The "levelers" sold at Home Depot are not all the same. Some are only good to 1/8 inch which doesn't work for me. I've been told I can have more concrete poured on top but it has to be 6 inches thick. Having it 'leveled' by professionals would cost a couple thousand dollars that I don't have. Is this a DIY project or should I go shopping for carpet? If I do end up with carpet, what do I do about the dust from the concrete? I'm afraid it will just work its way up into the carpet.
How do I join an existing hardwood floor and a laminate floor? The previous owners took out the existing hardwood floor in the ajoining dining room (to the living room) and installed carpet. I want to replace the carpet with a wood laminate floor but I am not sure how to make the two look seemless and join together. I would like this to be a DIY project and need some advice. Thank you
how to refinish the stair raiser after remove the carpet? Recently, I removed the old carpet from the stair, and hire the professional contract to refinish the stair tread, it turns out very beatiful, but I forgot to ask them how to refinish the stair raiser, I think it should be able to DIY, but just has no idea how to work on this project. The raiser was white painted, with some blue strips (don't know why), and lots of nail hole, the trim is even worse, will need to reinstall the trim. Please give me some advice on how to work on it, I think the patch of the nail hole, and sand or strip the old paint is necessary before I paint it to white again. Thanks.
I need to seal in the floor in my bathroom to make it water proof. Which sealent should I use? The floor is just a vinyl one from Carpet Right and I need to seal it up against the wall round the border of the bathroom. Also, the toilet and sink were installed on top of the vinyl - should I run sealent round the base of each unit too? I would like to purchase from www.screwfix.co.uk (I have other bits and pieces to buy from there) so please, if you can, please provide a link from Screwfix. I welcome any tips as Im useless at DIY !
What wood is best to board out my bathroom floor before I get lino fitted? I was advised by a carpet fitter to get my bathroom floorboards boarded out before having lino fitted. I want to try to do the job myself but not sure what wood is the best? Would I board it out around toilet/sink or can i leave gaps? Not sure as I am a complete DIY novice or is it best to leave job to the professionals?
What is the possibility of asbestos being in the vinyl flooring in my 1978 house? We are in the process of remodeling our guest bedroom. When we pulled up the carpet we found vinyl flooring underneath. What is the likelihood of the glue used containing asbestos? We started pulling up one of the tiles, but stopped. I know we can get a piece tested or do it ourselves. Does anyone know where to find a DIY kit?...or is that a bad idea. Thanks!!
I am buying a '40's house with HORRIBLE tile on the bathroom walls, how to paint over them? I LOVE THIS HOUSE. It has a swimming pool, and everything, but the only bathroom is small, and the walls are covered in BLUE tile!! Not one of my colors, nor a color I like. It looks like they have recently put down linoleum on the floor, so I can replace that. What I'm concerned about is the tile. Should I try to remove it, or paint over it? And if I do paint over it, will it stay? Keep in mind that the tiles are not only on the walls, but the entire bathtub walls are covered in them. I cannot live with this, and want to change it. I've never done any DIY, other than painting, but between this bathroom, and pulling up the carpet to refinish the hardwood, I'm going to have to learn!! Thanks in advance for your help. No, the tile is not plastic, it's ceramic.
I am redoing my room, I'm a teen girl on a budjet? I am on a budjet and I am wanting to make my room look different I am not going to repaint it or get new carpet but hopefully a new border and take things off the wall and put some new things up hopefully. I love pink and black. and girly things basically. cute DIY's are also accepted. :) So ideas would be much appreciated.
Installing Pergo in RV/ Van; DIY? Maybe I'm being lazy and do not want to do a complete teardown of my Van for my Pergo, but couldn't I just lay the Pergo planks above my carpet in my Van? I plan to make it look like a small/mini studio in my conversion van. I could use the sound deadening properties of my carpet and whatever's on there. I appreciate all inputs and suggestions/hints in advance, especially DIY-selfers who've done a job like this before..
