Home carpeting DIY - Is it easy to do or should you hire a pro? Hi, Is layign down carpeting something that best left to the professionals or is it fairly easy to do? We would consider ourselves to be a very handy couple of have a fairly extensive set of tools (and have ready to access to Home Depot / Lowe's). Both areas to be carpeted have no angles or would require any strange cuts. Any help / guidance would be appreciated! Thanks.
What is the best product or home remedy for removing the odor of pet urine from carpeting? Our two puppies, Butterscotch & Chewbacca, are just now getting the hang of housebreaking. They are adorable, but have had SEVERAL accidents on our living room carpeting. We have cancelled get-togethers at our home because no matter how often we deep clean the carpet (every other day with an Oreck) or how quickly we get to the accident (we use the Bissell green machine right away every time!,) we can't seem to get the smell out. It has permeated EVERYTHING. We know others who have dogs & they don't have the same trouble, but we can't seem to remedy it! HELP, PLEASE!!! Thanks!
I have a cement slab home with carpeting? and have a family member who is newly allergic to dust mites. Someone suggested that I remove the carpeting and, instead of putting down wood flooring, prep and stain the cement floor. Is anyone familiar with this? Can you direct me to some do-it-yourself sites showing how to do this properly?
What color to paint interior of a rental home with brown carpeting? The landlord says that any paint we use has to be a shade of white.. ie: Pale colors. The color up already is a weird clay color.. rather gross actually. We have a brown shaded carpet..splotches of darker browns and cremes... My fiance prefers blues, I like neutrals and then a splash of color..such as cherry red, or burnt orange. We have a bedroom, living room, and a "reading" room to paint. All are fairly small.. bedroom and "reading" room are 10 X 10 feet..and the living room is 9 x 17 feet, with a weird corner. Our furniture basically matches the flooring. Okay. Bedroom has a western window, and a window directly into the stairwell (durrr)...Fiance likes blackout conditions to sleep in, so color has to be light. I was thinking for an almost retro 70's feel with a pale blue wall paint, with the brown furniture we have, plus chocolate and creme bedcoverings.. and maroon pillows.Fabric up on the walls to match will also help deaden sound. My 'reading' room, also my sun room...I'm a little more iffy on. I don't like yellows in abundance, but I could deal with a lighter yellow. I can sleep in 70's, but living in it just might be too difficult. The living area is a problem. It's rather narrow, and long. I'd like to "square" it with the paint a little, without making it too dark. I've got lots of creme wall papers too. One's stripes in golds and browns, the other's got stripes with maroon. I've also got the obligatory "Ivy Leaf" border paper. Room orientation: The house is not directly pointed at the directions. The "North" bedroom is more NW with one window directly into a dark stairwell. (I guess it used to have windows too, but not anymore). The "Reading" room is more true W than S, with a beautiful view of the next door neibor's house to the S and a view of the back alley to the W. No tall buildings, though, so it gets some light. The living room has a window S by SW, and a window to the E..sort-of. The living room opens directly into the kitchen via an archway, and a opening that has a breakfast bar. I've so far chosen a very pale teal for the bedroom. With the other furniture and fabrics it gives it a very 70's feel. The bathroom is going to be a dove grey, since there is no carpet in there.Living room may be a peach creme. The reading room is all me, and I'm having a hard time deciding. I want more light in there. Which means true white, or yellow?
cheap carpeting at home depot...any good? in the back of home depot (or lowes) they have the "in stock" carpets on those rolls. they are alot cheaper than the little pieces of sample carpets that you can look through and order...the ones in the back are only like 75 cents a SF.... has anyone ever used one of them? are they any good? or are they cheap and crappy? i need carpet that will still look good in 2 years b/c i will be selling my house in 2 years.... anyone with experience with these carpets...please share :)
Can a builder enter a home after sale and rip out carpeting w/o permission? I just closed on a home in a new subdivision a week ago. At the time of close, a bedroom and living room were carpeted although I paid for tile upgrades. After the keys were turned over to me and after the close of escrow, I signed a doc saying no entry without my presence and I documented the flooring discrepancy. I returned to my new home today and the carpeting had been ripped out and replaced with tiles and damage to walls and baseboards. Is this a criminal violation? state=CA
How can I get rid of fleas in my hard wood home? I've looked all over the net for an answer but they all seem to be for carpeted homes. My entire home is hardwood so there is no carpet. So far the best advice is to sprinkle BORAX on the floors and vaccum it but I don't know if that will work for hardwood. The cat's been moved for a month now but there are still fleas in our home. HELP!
when home depot instals carpet into your home, will they move furniture? We are looking to get carpet at home depot and having them install it throughout the whole upstairs. My concern is with all the things we have in each of the rooms like furniture. Will the guys move it for us, or do we have a lot of work ahead of us? Has anyone had experience with this? And what did you/they do? Thanks!
What's a good flea control product to use on carpet/home that's safe for a kitten? Kitty is being treated for fleas currently and I want to treat the carpet/furniture as well. What product would be safe for the kitten to be around? Or if I need to keep the kitten away - for how long after application? Thanks guys.. I got Raid flea carpet and room spray, but i am unsure about using it with kitty around.. should I? He is about 2-3 months old. any comparatively safe product recommendation for home? will try the bath for sure..
I'm selling my 1917 home. Is a home with all hardwood floors preferable to one with carpeting in 2 bedrooms? I live in Minneapolis. A friend who is a realtor told me that "no-one" wants carpeting in an older home. However, the hardwood flooring in the two bedrooms has some damage, that would cost a lot to repair and won't look great - even after the floors are repaired and refinished. I want to sell the home in the next 4 or 5 months, so I want it to look nice, without having to spend a lot of money. Installing carpeting in the two bedrooms will be cheaper than having the hardwood flooring repaired - but will anyone want to buy an older home with carpeted bedrooms? Will I make more money on the sale of the house, if I have the hardwood floors repaired? Keep in mind that even if I have them repaired and refinished, they are still not going to look "great".
I'm buying carpeting from Home Depot? I'm thinking Beach Sand color because it's seems to be the closest to white, I just had a question about the price. My room measures 134 1/2 inches X 145 1/2 inches. How much would carpeting cost in total? I'm getting the texture kind of carpeting, which I believe is the cheapest

How can I clean a subfloor after removing old carpeting & padding? We removed the old carpeting from a home that we bought and the sub floor smells. We are installing laminate flooring but would like to clean the old subfloor first. The old owners had cats and the subfloor smells - we are assuming that the cat urine went into the carpeting & on to the sub-floor.
Where can I find carpet for my home in Germany? I'm an American living on the Germany/Netherlands border near Heinsberg. I'm having trouble finding places to shop around for carpet as well as interior paint. There are stores similar to Home Depot but it seems like their selection is limited and their prices are a rip-off. I need help.
Is it okay to get office style carpet for you home? I want to get the thinner office style carpet for my home. It's only 45 cents a square foot at home depot. Is it okay to get it for the home rather than the plusher residential carpet? It's a lot cheaper. I also don't want padding, and want it glue to the floor. Since there is less material, the carpet will be easier to maintain and less likely to snag and damage.
What is the best flooring in a rental home? I'm thinking of moving and turning my home into a rental. The wall to wall carpet needs to be replaced. The house is built on a concrete slab. What is the best type of flooring to use in a rental home? Carpet, Laminate, Composite Wood Flooring? I can't afford hardwood even though it would last a long time. Perhaps a combination would be best? Carpet the bedrooms but not the rest of the house? Should the kitchen and second bathroom be tile or laminate?
