Carpet Accessory

A carpet accessory is the kind of tool you can use to bring out the best in your carpet or rug. Some of these little tools may appear a bit odd to the uninitiated, while others are well known and familiar to pretty much everyone. To have a firm handle on the kind of carpet accessory you might need, here is a short rundown on those most frequently seen:
1. A vacuum is the number one carpet accessory and familiar to virtually everyone who lives in a first world country. No other device will protect your floor covering from the ravages of time and the damage that constant foot traffic will impose on your carpet. Make sure that your vacuum is of good quality, in good working condition, and able to work on the kind of carpet you have.
2. Borax is a must for anyone who has pets. Dogs and cats will carry in fleas, no matter how well groomed they are. While these fleas will not actually live inside your carpet fibers, they do use the carpets in your home as a spring board to once again land on a warm blooded host, and controlling the flea population in your carpets will make your dog’s life a lot easier!

3. An unlikely carpet accessory that you may or may not have heard of is the garden rake. Having a dedicated rake for your shag carpet is a must, since without it you will be unable to once again righten trampled fibers. Yet did you know that such a rake also comes in handy if you are moving your furniture around and want some quick assistance in helping the previously crushed carpet fibers to stand up again.
4. While for many the can of carpet spot cleaner is a most valued carpet accessory, exercise caution! Many experts advise against the use of such spot cleaners simply because they may cause more harm than good on your carpet. Instead, the use of lukewarm water – cold water in the case of blood – and a clean, white paper towel for blotting are often considered all that is necessary to remove the stains that may occur during everyday activities. For the more stubborn stains, there are several other spot treatment tips and tricks available.
5. Last but not least, keep your carpet manufacturer’s phone number handy! While this may not seem like an accessory at the moment, if you find that a spot needs to be re-dyed, only your manufacturer will be able to supply you with the kind of dye you need to make your carpet look its best again.
